Junior Data Engineer - Real World Data

Permanent employee, Full-time · NL - Amsterdam

Our mission
We turn data into better healthcare. With our insights, we make healthcare more affordable, and better, and we improve the patient’s and clinicians’ experience.
Your impact and responsibilities
Giving insight into clinical data has great potential to improve healthcare. There are still relevant variations between hospitals regarding treatment, cost and patient outcomes that can be uncovered, and knowing where the variations lie supports effective improvements. As a data Engineer in the clinical outcomes business unit, you will be contributing to providing those insights that help hospitals, medical professionals and registry owners improve.

As a Data Engineer within the Clinical Outcomes business unit, you will be responsible for the execution of data requests on behalf of our clients. This includes:

  • Operate and manage our data distribution pipeline  to schedule and deliver data to internal and external clients.
  • 50% of your work will consist of creating test datasets, configuring recurring exports and changes in recurring exports, and delivering standard data distribution requests. To operate the data distribution pipeline, you will (learn to) work with various different technologies and data engineering solutions (PostgresQL, Pentaho, Bash, Git, Kubernetes, Docker, Unix, shell scripts), as well as writing R-code.
  • 50% of your work will consist of custom data distribution requests. On top of the requirements needed for the former, this consists of a deeper understanding of the datasources, data pipeline and writing more advanced R-code.
  • Collaborate closely with the development team of our data distribution pipeline.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and other data engineers on related projects and support them with data-related technical issues.
  • Proactively propose enhancements and new features for our data distribution pipeline.

After a period of time your responsibilities will broaden based on your skills and preferences. This is expected to include contributing to various data driven analytics requests and projects, for instance analyzing data and writing or reviewing code to answer questions from- or create products for hospitals, medical professionals, pharmaceutical companies or clinical registries.
Your team
You will be part of the Analytics team: a team of motivated, results driven and analytically strong people, who have a drive to use their data engineering and analytics skills to improve healthcare. Every team member has a broad skill base as well as their own unique expertise, knowledge and responsibilities. This helps us focus, keeps us challenged, but also gives us the opportunity to continuously grow and learn from each other.

The Analytics team is part of the Real World Data division, that includes all teams that work on getting our data, insights and products from A (data delivery) to Z (Reports and dashboards for hospitals, medical professionals and clinical registries).
Your profile
  • You will join the company with 1-2 years of experience as a data-engineer, data scientist or data analyst
  • You have a proven track-record in programming and coding in R and SQL
  • You have experience with bash/shell scripting
  • You have a master’s degree preferably in a quantitative or information technology discipline or a similar field.
  • You are fluent in Dutch; a good understanding of English is a pre.
  • You are excited to use data analytics and engineering to help solve problems in healthcare
  • You are a quick learner and are driven to keep learning and developing
  • You are comfortable in an informal professional environment where you get a lot of freedom and responsibilities
  • You are a “team player”

Preferably you have

  • Experience using GIT
  • Experience working with Python
  • Experience with bitbucket and bitbucket pipelines
  • Experience within the healthcare analytics domain
  • Experience with Pentaho or other Java based technologies (big plus)
  • A basic understanding of automated data engineering solutions in a cloud-computing context (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Argo), and a willingness to contribute and learn

We value eagerness to learn over meeting all requirements. So even if you don’t feel like you meet 100% of the criteria, we’d still encourage you to reconsider and apply. We look forward to your application.
